This week I welcome Blossom Events, a Toronto-based wedding and event planning duo. These two energetic ladies, Jan and Mary, believe that no event should be “just an event”. They bring their orderly, efficient event planning and unmistakable sense of visual aesthetics to every assignment.

We’re based in both Toronto/Markham – but more than willing to travel.
How long have you been wedding planners?
We have been planning events and helping to coordinate weddings for friends and family for many years, but only towards end of last year did we decide to start this venture together.
What got you started in wedding planning?
Jan: Love. Am one of those people who gets all warm and fuzzy just watching 2 people in love getting married. And love the individuality and personality of each wedding as no 2 weddings are ever really the same.
Mary : I love event planning and enjoy planning all the little details from start to finish. After planning events on a volunteer basis for over 10 years, I decided to start a company of my own to help people plan their dream wedding.
Where does your inspiration come from?
What are some of the 2011trends you are seeing?
Ruffles – we’ve seen in dresses and even cakes. It’s both romantic and fun.
Your favourite wedding of all time?
Jan: This is tough..Aside from my own wedding..haha…I would probably say a wedding of a friend I attended recently. It wasn’t all about the venue or the décor or food, (which was good of course) but it was how much fun both the bride and groom were having that set the mood for that night and made it so memorable for me.
How would you describe your style?
Mary: I like to keep it simple and I stay on top of things and get things done instead of procrastinating.
What is one piece of advice you have for brides?
Jan: I always say this, but sometimes brides get so stressed out that they forget how to enjoy their own wedding. Remember that it’s a day you should remember for celebrating your love together and so you should relax and have fun!
Mary: Weddings planners are a necessity for all weddings. We will do all the work so that you can have a good time.
One thing that makes you different from other wedding planners?
We’re not just wedding planners, but we want you to be our friend, cause we definitely like to be yours! So we’re always here to lend our ears, whether it’s about your needs for the wedding or just plain wedding rants, because we understand how stressful it can get planning a wedding.
What wedding services do you offer?
We do full coordination, day of coordination as well as a la carte services for wedding showers, and rehearsal dinners.
Something you’re still learning?
Jan: Still learning to cook and bake better, or rather expand my cooking/baking range. My mom was both a great cook and baker, and I always strive to be just like her!
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Jan: My hubby. Who has always stood by me and supported me in whatever I want to do whether professionally or personally. And my good friends from Malaysia whom I grew up with –who are always just a phone call away when I need them.
Where you’ll find me on a Friday night at 9pm?
Mary: At home planning the next event or relaxing at a teashop with friends.
Five words your friends would use to describe you?
Jan: creative, friendly, adventurous, kind, emotional and organized
Mary: caring, optimistic, easy-Going, calm, driven
